DATI PERSONALI
Nel gennaio 2005 il Dr. Serrao ha dimostrato la teoria della “Differente risposta nasale e temporale della cornea alla chirurgia laser” pubblicata nello Special Issue del Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Questo lavoro ha reso il Dr. Serrao un leader internazionale nel campo della chirurgia laser.
STUDI
Novembre 2003: completa il dottorato di Ricerca in Chirurgia Refrattiva presso l’Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, sede consorziata dell’Università degli Studi di Padova.
Aprile 2002: si reca in Baltimore (MD) dove frequenta come “Visiting Doctor” il reparto di “Corneal and Cataract Service” del “Wilmer Eye Institute”(hopkinsmedicine.org/wilmer) al Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Aprile 2002: frequenta il centro di chirurgia refrattiva “Laserone” di New York (NY).
Aprile 2000: si reca in Columbus (Ohio), presso il “Revision Eye Center” diretto dal Dr. J. Schumer ove ottiene la “NIDEK Certification” per effettuare trattamenti laser per la correzione della miopia.
Novembre 1999 inizia il Dottorato di Ricerca in “Oftalmologia e Correzione chirurgica dei vizi di refrazione” presso l’Università degli Studi di Padova (www.unipd.it). Direttore: Prof. Cesare Bisantis.
1996: si iscrive al General Medical Council e frequenta il reparto di “Medical Retina” del “Moorfields Eye Hospital”, Londra, UK sotto la guida del Prof. A. C. Bird, occupandosi di patologia retinica eredo-degenerativa ed in particolare di Retinite Pigmentosa.
1993-2003: frequenta come specializzando, e poi come dottorando, l’Istituto di Oftalmologia dell’Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Roma (www.rm.unicatt.it) sotto la guida del Prof. Bruno Bagolini e poi del Prof. Luigi Scullica, dove si dedica con particolare riguardo allo studio ed alla pratica della chirurgia del segmento anteriore, alla fluorangiografia ed alla terapia laser.
1992: consegue la Laurea in Medicina e Chirurgia presso l’Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Roma presentando la tesi “Manifestazioni oculari in corso di infezione da HIV”. Relatore: Prof. Bruno Bagolini.
1986: si iscrive al 1º anno di corso alla facoltà di Medicina e Chirurgia dell’Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Roma.
SPECIALITÀ E FELLOWSHIP
Marzo 2004: viene proclamato Dottore di Ricerca in Oftalmologia presso l’Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, sede consorziata dell’Università di Padova.
Novembre 1997: diventa Specialista in Oftalmologia presso l’Istituto di Oftalmologia dell’Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore.
ATTIVITÀ PROFESSIONALE
dal 1997 ad oggi: Direttore e Fondatore del Centro SERRAOLASER, sito in Roma, ove esegue interventi per cataratta, Trapianto di Cornea e Chirurgia Refrattiva mediante Laser ad Eccimeri.
1993-2004: lavora al Policlinico Gemelli dove ha effettuato oltre 2000 interventi chirugici ed ha prodotto numerose pubblicazioni scientifiche su riviste internazionali “Peer Reviewed”.
1993: svolge il servizio militare come Ufficiale Medico nell’Aeronautica Militare, dove riceve, dal T. Col. G. Giovinazzo Comandante del 1º Deposito Centrale A.M., un “Conferimento di Elogio per l’attività svolta”.
ATTIVITÀ DIDATTICA
1997-2005 “Tutor” in oltre 200 interventi di facoemulsificazione di cataratta ed in oltre 100 interventi di chirurgia laser eseguiti dagli Specializzandi in Oftalmologia dell’Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore.
2000–2005 Professore a contratto per l’insegnamento di 'Neuroftalmologia’ nel corso di Diploma di Laurea in “Ortottista ed Assistente in Oftalmologia” presso l’Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore.

Nel campo dell’informatica il dr. Serrao ha una buona conoscenza dei più comuni sistemi hardware (IBM, Macintosh), e dei sistemi operativi quali Unix, DOS e Windows. Ha compilato numerosi programmi tra i quali il software utilizzato per l’analisi digitale della migrazione epiteliale dopo PRK (JOURNAL OF REFRACTIVE SURGERY Volume 19 January/February 2003).
